Transferring a prescription is very easy. Your new pharmacy would love to have you as a customer, and they’ll do most of the work.
The easiest way to transfer a prescription is to simply call your new pharmacy and provide them with:
- your name & birthdate
- your prescription information
- your GoodRx card or coupon information (if you’re planning to use for a discount)
- the name and phone number of your current pharmacy
The new pharmacy can then call your old pharmacy, and have the prescription transferred. It typically won’t take more than a few hours at most.
Keep in mind that you may not be able to transfer prescriptions for some controlled substances. In that case, you’ll likely need a new prescription from your doctor.
